DULUTH, Ga., April 21, 2021 – Following the final verdict of guilt issued by a jury of peers on Tuesday, April 20, for the trial of Derek Chauvin for the killing of George Floyd last summer, Faith & Freedom Coalition leadership issued the following statements:
“I believe the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial was just and correct,” commented Faith & Freedom Chairman Ralph Reed. “I pray that it leads to the American people coming together to enact sound policing reforms similar to those advanced by the Trump administration – such as banning the use of chokeholds except when an officer is in imminent danger – and the police reform legislation forwarded by Senator Tim Scott. We still have more work to do as a society to heal these wounds and reform policing and the criminal justice system so that they fully reflect the Biblical mandate of justice, redemption, and restitution. It is vital that as we do so, we strongly support law enforcement and stand with the police officers who risk their lives every day and form the thin blue line that protects law-abiding citizens. I hope and pray we can move forward in a way that is bipartisan and promotes genuine unity of purpose.” Faith & Freedom Coalition Executive Director Tim Head added, “When left to work unimpeded, our justice system arrives at the right conclusions. The jury of Derek Chauvin’s peers delivered a fair and just verdict. We at Faith & Freedom Coalition are grateful to the men and women who thoughtfully made this decision as a part of their duty as citizens to participate in juries, and we look forward with hope for the continued healing that this verdict will bring in Minneapolis and across the country.” |
