DULUTH, Ga. – On March 25, Governor Brian Kemp signed into law Senate Bill 202, a new bill that proposes sweeping election reforms aimed at securing Georgia’s elections. The legislation was spearheaded by Republicans through both the House and the Senate, and passed in both chambers just an hour before with votes of 34-20 in the Senate and 100-75 in the House. The bill will require voters to submit an approved form of identification in order to vote by absentee ballot. Additionally, the bill will limit outside election funding and place new conditions on when and where absentee ballots can be submitted.
“Passing the Senate Bill 202 is a huge victory for the integrity of the American election system” said Timothy Head, executive director of Faith and Freedom Coalition. “We have seen how voter fraud and election insecurity can proliferate when there are not clear regulations set in our voting process. Georgia’s new bill brings structure and clear guidelines for how Georgians shall vote by mail. The passage of Senate Bill 202 is a milestone for Georgia’s election integrity.”
Democrats have made their opposition known by protesting outside of the Capitol, as well filing a federal lawsuit to stop the bill. But Georgia’s Republicans are not alone in their fight to promote voter integrity; there are more than 230 election security bills currently on the table across 43 states. The passage of Senate Bill 202 is a huge step toward restoring full confidence in Georgia’s election system.
