Faith & Freedom Coalition Applauds Iowa’s Landmark Election Integrity Reform

DULUTH, Ga. – On March 8, Iowa’s election laws received a much-needed reform after Governor Kim Reynolds signed Senate File 413 into law. The bill will dramatically improve the integrity and security of Iowa’s elections by bringing uniformity to the election process across Iowa’s counties and districts. The new election law establishes clear parameters surrounding absentee ballots, mail-in voting, database maintenance and election conduct. Every Republican in the Iowa Senate voted in favor. Every Democrat voted against it.

“I applaud Iowa Republicans for their tremendous courage in tackling the problem of election integrity head-on,” said Timothy Head, executive director of the Faith and Freedom Coalition. “The American republic needs clear, consistent, and secure election laws. Ambiguity and uncertainty are the breeding ground for fraud and misconduct. I hope other states will follow Iowa’s example and help restore confidence in our electoral process.”

The case for election integrity reform is building across the country. In Iowa alone, there were 12 convictions for election misconduct during fiscal years 2019 and 2020. In addition to codifying clear election proceedings in the state, Iowa’s new law tightens restrictions on how mail-in ballots will be counted and who can submit absentee ballots. It also reduces Iowa’s early-voting election period from 29 to 20 days and strips county auditors of many of their discretionary powers in running elections in their counties.
